Based on historical data and descriptions of battles on the Danube, it is believed that <\/span><b>the island was formed in the second half of the 15th century<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Due to its significant strategic position, it always played an important role in <\/span><b>war operations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in this area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located at the confluence of <\/span><b>the rivers Sava and Danube<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. About two-thirds of the island is used as a <\/span><b>natural reserve<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>196 bird species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Many of them are endangered. The island is the only location1 in Serbia for the bird&#8217;s little nest fungi, which is used for antioxidant extraction. There are also rare species of white water lily, which is on the natural rarity list. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the northern part of the island is the <\/span><b>sandy beach &#8220;Lido&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which gathers a large number of visitors during the summer months. They have a <\/span><b>barbecue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> here, play <\/span><b>beach volleyball<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>swim<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Danube. We think that visiting Great War Island during the winter is not the best option, as the vegetation is not diverse, the temperature is very low and there are no sports
