Fruska Gora hike & wine

Welcome to a unique hike tour in Fruska Gora National Park, spiced up with good wine and delicious local flavors. During our hike, apart from beautiful nature, we will also explore two old orthodox monasteries Staro Hopovo and Novo Hopovo, and find out about their history and cultural significance. Nestled in northern Serbia, Fruska Gora Mountain and National Park is a haven of natural beauty, boasting lush forests, picturesque valleys, and captivating wildlife.  Fruska Gora is also renowned for its rich wine-making heritage, with centuries-old vineyards gracing its slopes. 

We will start the tour with an easy hike suitable for all fitness levels (the trail is 10 km long, total time: around 4 hours including breaks, 350 m ascent, maximum height 529 m).

After the hike, we will stop in a traditional restaurant for lunch (not included in the price), and then continue to a local winery for wine tasting.

Winemaking in the Fruska Gora mountain is one of the oldest in Europe. Its 1700-year-old winemaking tradition was started by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus who planted the first wines in this area.

Fertile Pannonian plain, centuries of experience, and secret local recipes have turned people of the region into the most skillful winegrowers and winemakers. The town of Sremski Karlovci nestled in the woods of Fruska Gora Mountain became the wine capital of Serbia.

The old local winery owned by the family Kis is the epicenter of Fruška Gora’s wine history, and you will have the opportunity to enjoy their wine while learning more about Serbian wine production and varieties.

​Staro Hopovo and Novo Hopovo monasteries are important religious and cultural centers in Serbia. Staro Hopovo, founded in the 15th century, is characterized by authentic Serbian architecture, while Novo Hopovo was built in the 18th century and has baroque elements. Both monasteries have significant frescoes and a rich history. They are a precious part of Serbian cultural heritage, attracting visitors with their spiritual atmosphere and artistic treasures.

ITINERARY:

Departure from Belgrade at 9 am. Drive to Fruska Gora National Park (around 1 hour). Hike tour Iriški venac – Novo Hopovo – Staro Hopovo – Iriški venac (around 10 km, total time around 4 hours with breaks, 350 m ascent, maximum height 529 m). After the hike, a lunch break in a local restaurant (not included in the price). Transfer to Sremski Karlovci (around 30 minutes), wine tasting, and relaxing conversations at Kiš winery. Return to Belgrade around 6 pm. End of program.
